Our Story
I, Pallavi Luharuka, Founder & CEO, Royal Bengal Greentech, was working with MNCs like Honeywell and WR Grace across R&D, Techno-Commercial Sales across geographies like Middle East, Asia Pacific, Europe, China and India, with speciality in process licensing, in the Oil and Gas Sector. As a part of my role, I was required to conduct market research about latest trends, when I found that even the Oil Marketing Companies (my clients i.e. IOCL, BPCL, HPCL, RIL etc.) were required to adopt sustainable practices like ethanol blending program. I soon realised that the technology for production of ethanol was undisrupted for decades, and costly, which only Tier-1 players like above could afford.
Being a gold medallist in Chemical engineering, CMA and MBA myself, I thought there was a great opportunity to develop my own technology, such that ethanol production could be done at a much affordable cost, which MSMEs like me could adopt to enable mass adoption to protect Mother Nature. This is how RBG was born.
The chosen feedstock was broken rice, to leverage local resources in Kolkata, for which we partnered with Jadavpur University Kolkata. One day accidentally something that looked like plastic got discovered. Upon market research it was found that existing bioplastics were not as popular as policy mandated it to be since the past decade, mainly due to the high cost of replacement. Our bioplastic used the same raw material, i.e. waste broken rice, and was hence highly cost-effective – this I when we realised it was a gold mine ready to solve a global problem and we started nurturing this further to where we are today!
BhavisyaPlastTM is thus our patented, award-winning, agri-waste derived, 100% bio-degradable, thermosetting plastic priced at par with petro-plastic relative to 3x costlier alternatives – we are ready to commercialise the first film manufacturing unit for tertiary packaging, with licensing being the primary business model in the medium to long term.
While we were raising funds for the same, our mentor and technical head advised (based on his past industrial experience) that we should try learning how to lead a manufacturing business at the micro level, handle labour and fetch market feedback through a simpler and relatively low capital product, which was also new. This is how GREEZE (FORMERLY GREEZY) /GREEZOL was born – 100% eco-friendly lubricant range (zero petroleum, zero animal fat) made from vegetable oil – leveraging ancestral knowledge with advanced technology solutions – commercially supplied across industries ranging from automotive, paints, FMCG, steel, etc.
